I have never regarded myself as an entertaining writer but I have had two compliments today. One was a gentleman who wished to be invited to my other blog.
The other was from a colleague who said my report on a pupil made her laugh. It wasn't meant to be funny. She said my 'way with words' made her scream with laughter.
Judge for yourself.
The demands of class tuition have not sat well with John's view of music as an art form to be enjoyed rather than studied and, to an extent, I sympathise with him. In our “Variations” composition project he worked with a partner to produce a short piece based on a given theme. The result was, sadly, just a random selection of notes which produced a melody without a discernible shape; the pair had not even agreed how to perform the piece and John saw fit to call out instructions during the final rendition. In an earlier task, pupils were asked to write a tune to fit with the chord sequence of “Earth Angel”. The work John handed in was fine but contained many gaps which needed filling in later; as a result the piece did not hang together. However he did produce two such pieces, one with a partner and another on his own so he did more work than most. He missed the recent listening test and his final grade reflects both this and the fact that he has adopted a rather casual approach to music this term on just a few occasions.
