I'm not sure what post 500 will be about (my recent holiday perhaps) but I'm going to begin with an invitation. I have Skype but have only used it to converse with one person. If you feel like a chat send me an email [see About Me] and we'll go from there. If you feel like meeting up in the flesh let me know too. (Steve?!)
I had to go shopping today. I didn't want to, luckily I'd done a little yesterday. You'll find the reason later.
Warning - Religious bit.
Given that it is Good Friday - the day when our Saviour died on the cross - I have to say I was disgusted with 21st century consumer society. Tesco was crowded (as it is for the other sales opportunity religious festival of the year: Christmas. Now, who am I to judge as I was there myself? I did feel the more sullied because of it. No, I haven't been to church this Holy Week and I didn't give anything up for Lent. I shall go to church on Sunday - probably. I'm not setting myself up over the rest of the population of Northamptonshire, but some folk had so much grub that their trolleys [not 'trollies' apparently] were actually overflowing.
Religion is not right for everyone but we all have a spiritual side and this offended mine, that's the point. It wouldn't have happened when I was a kid. Proof that I live in the past, the Good Old Days, whatever.
End of Religious bit.
Mrs TS (who is away with her mother) left me a list of what to buy and I meant to do it on Thursday. When I went to the freezer in our garage to double check items we needed - I found the door open. Nearly everything had to be thrown away. I kept some sausages which were still stiff, but the chips were soft and the ice-cream had melted [serves it right as this is what had prevented the door from closing properly - that and negligence on the part of Mrs TS]
I also kept a whole bag of peas, not to freeze again but to make pea soup. Here's my own recipe.
- A large bag of frozen peas
- 6 leftover sticks of celery, cut up
- 2 onions, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, crushed
- 3/4 pint of water, hot if you have it.
- 1 teaspoon Marjoram
- A few left over boiled potatoes (optional)
- A small glass of sherry (well it was in the kitchen)
- One (and one only) teaspoon of mint sauce - added at the end.
- seasoning
Place all ingredients into a pressure cooker and bring to pressure for 10mins (while you wash up the tea things)
Reduce pressure, add the mint sauce and blitz (failing to find the liquidizer I used the
hand blender.) Check seasoning.
Cool and freeze half, place other half in fridge for lunch over the next two days.
